As a local venue, you can hold your competition over any number of nights or weeks you wish. The local venue registration entitles you to hold your competition to determine one male, one female, and one people's choice winner to be sent to the next level of competition. In most cases, that will be to the state competition. Your local competition must be completed based on the the latest posted timeline. Timeline is subject to change based on venues in your area and the timing of the national and world competitions.

Venues can purchase multiple competitions rights, hold multiple competitions and send their winners for each competition to the next level. As of the 2010-2011 season, all singers must have registered with KWCUSA and provide this to proof in order to compete. It is up to the local venue/KJ to ensure that all singers have properly registered at the KWCUSA website.

You are under no obligation to provide any prizes, however prizes are always a good draw. Your winners have to provide for their own transportation and expenses to the next level of competition. Local venues can charge an entry fee to their competition. This entry fee can be used for whatever purpose the local venue determines.

Buffalo Wild Wings manager in Texas: "From a business stand point, the KWCUSA is a terrific draw. Our customers keep coming back week after week in their effort to become one of our weekly qualifiers for the summer finals. We actually have calls throughout the week to our stores wanting to know 'what night the KWCUSA contest is'; as opposed to calls before just asked if there would be karaoke. This is an important distinction, because this shows me that there are singers in our markets wanting to be part of this steadily growing franchise. From a singer's viewpoint, the KWCUSA is a challenging experience that brings out the heart and soul of a performer, demanding the best that they can be to showcase the talents they have. The KWCUSA attracts singers from all parts of the area and in turn demands more from our regular singers as they face mounting competition from other performers who are hungry for a chance at national stardom."
